Class 51 (1) In a boiler of the kind having a combustion chamber which is enclosed or partly enclosed by tubes or the like through which water to be heated is passed, preheated secondary air is introduced into the combustion chamber through a pipe 11 from which are branched-off at intervals along its length a number of pipes 12 of smaller cross-sectional area each of which terminates in a nozzle 13 disposed above the normal level of the fuel bed and having at least two slots or apertures whereby air drawn in, which is preheated on its passage to the nozzles, is directed in two or more directions and is distributed substantially uniformly over at least the rear part of the fuel bed.
