Steam, supplying; crowns and roofs,-In steam boiler furnaces provided with steam jets above the grate and with means for supplying overgrate air the steam nozzle 2 has a row of openings arranged horizontally, those directed against the lateral walls 4 of the furnace being larger in diameter than those directed towards the end 5 of the grate so as to drive the combustion gases off the lateral walls. The nozzle 2 is supplied with steam by a pipe 7 and is arranged immediately below the roof 1 of the furnace chamber, air being supplied by a channel 8 in the walls and crown controlled by a damper 9. The lateral jets A being stronger than the longitudinal jets C the gases rising from the fire-bed 6 are kept away from the side walls and forced to rise along the water-tubes 10 of the boiler.
