Crowns and roofs.-In a steam boiler or like furnace having a longitudinal duct through the ignition arch to connect the front and rear parts of the furnace, an injector-like nozzle f is arranged in the front end of the duct d in order to induce the furnace gas to flow through the duct to the front part of the furnace chamber c. Secondary air, which may be under pressure, is admitted through a pipe g into the nozzle and, together with the furnace gases drawn through the duct d, mixes with the distillation gases coming through the gate e from the fuel on the front end of the grate.
