Abstract
Sodium tetraphenyl-boron, in which the phenyl radical may be substituted, is prepared by reacting the required phenyl magnesium halide with boron fluoride, and salting out the reaction mixture with sodium chloride, or by reacting the required phenyl sodium with boron fluoride. The sodium in the sodium tetraphenylboron obtained may be replaced in known manner by other monovalent cations, e.g. by potassium, ammonium, rubidium or caesium. In an example, sodium tetraphenylboron is prepared by reacting boron fluoride and phenylmagnesium bromide and adding sodium chloride to an ethereal solution of the reaction mixture. Lithium tetraphenylboron is also referred to.
