Abstract

704,382. Garment racks. MARTIN, A. Jan. 3, 1951 [Jan. 6, 1950], No. 410/50. Classes 52(3) and 52(5) [Also in Group XXV] A garment rack comprises two upright frame elements and a substantially horizontal tubular rail 10 with end sockets to engage over the upright elements. The tubular rail is provided with a series of pairs of diametrically opposed holes 11 in substantially vertical alignment between which a sleeve 15 is secured by turning over its ends to provide annular flanges 13, 14. Each sleeve may receive the downturned spigot portion of a garment supporting rod 16 provided with a raised portion 19 to form a handle. A knob 20 at the end of each rod prevents the accidental detachment of garment supporting clips 21 mounted thereon. Each clip comprises two plates 23 with apertured lugs 30 through which the rod is threaded. The jaws 26 are pressed together by a coil compression spring 33. In a modification the coil compression spring is replaced by a torsion spring the ends of which are brought out to engage the inner surfaces of the plates 23 and will be disposed on the rod 16 between the lugs of the plates. The apertures in the lugs are of slightly greater diameter than the rod so that the clip is self locking in a selected position on the garment supporting rod but releasable for sliding along the rod without causing a garment held' thereby to be released.
