Description
y 1950 c. MANCINO 2,515,523
FLASK 0R TEST TUBE HOLDER Filed May 5 1947 INVENTOR A97) MA/VC/A/O c 2 BY ATTORNEY Patented July 18, 1950 UNITED FLASK OR TEST TUBE HOLDER Christy Mancino, Youngstown, Ohio, assignor to Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation, a corporation of New Jersey Application May 8, 1947, Serial No. 746,743
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to improvements in holders for flasks, test tubes, or similar articles.
In laboratory work, flasks,'test tubes and other containers are frequently suspended in relation to other apparatus, as for example, over the flame of a Bunsen burner. Spring clamps or pincer-like devices have customarily been employed for such purposes, but are inefficient and unreliable.
It is the principal object of my invention to provide a holder which readily and securely mounts and supports containers of the character stated without the necessity for adjustment or spring pressure.
Additional objects and advantages will become apparent from the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Fig. 1 is an elevational View of a holder embodying my invention, showing a flask supported thereby; and
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder.
Referring to the drawing, the holder of my invention includes an upper member 2 and a lower member 3 respectively having free terminals 4 and 5 spaced apart vertically. As indicated, the holder may be formed of two members welded or otherwise secured together at 6. One end of the upper member 2 may be slotted or drilled as at I for attachment by bolt 8 to a support 9, which, for example, may comprise a part of a laboratory bench or table.
The terminal 4 of the uppermember 2 is slotted at ID to form an open bifurcated end to receive the neck of a flask or other container I I. Collars or heads I2 are provided on the flasks or containers, and overlie the spaced arms I3 on either side of the slot I to support the flask or container, the terminals 14 of said arms I3 being upturned to prevent accidental sliding disengagement of the collar I2.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that my holder may be fixed to a suitable support, and flasks or containers readily applied thereto and removed therefrom in relation to a burner It or other device, by the simple expedient of engaging the flask or container with the bifurcated end 4 and rest 5, the lugs l4 preventing lateral disengagement of the supported flask or container from the slot I0.
Various changes and modifications are contemplated within the scope of the following claim.
I claim:
A holder for flasks or the like comprising an arm adapted to be so mounted on a support as to extend laterally therefrom, the outer end of the arm being bifurcated forming two spaced prongs adapted to embrace the neck of a flask, a lug projecting upwardly from the end of each prong adapted to retain a flask on the holder, and a bracing member extending downwardly from said arm adapted to engage the flask below said prongs.
CHRISTY MANCINO.
