703,092. Cylinder printing presses. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURGNURNBERG AKT.- GES. May 17, 1951 [May 19, 1950], No. 11605/51. Class 100 (2) A high speed cylinder press having a compressed air generator 98 is characterized in that the press and generator are both driven by a variable speed electric motor 95 and the driving connection between the motor and the press is through a variable velocity ratio transmission so that the speed of the press may be varied with constant motor speed. As shown the drive to the press is by means of a V belt 92 and twostep pulleys 91, 93. A type bed 9 is reciprocated by a toothed segment 19. Sheets are supplied to an impression cylinder 4 by means of a suction device 2 and a feed table 3. The sheets are fed to a delivery table 8 by a chain gripper device 7 and covered with a paraffin or wax layer to prevent smearing by a spraying device 90 operated by compressed air. The compressed air generator 98 is driven by belt 97 from a pulley 96 on the motor 95, the speed of rotation of the motor being adjustable by about 40 per cent.
