Abstract

607,341. Drying-apparatus; delivery apparatus. HOBBS, S. J. Jan. 30, 1946 No. 3043. [Classes 100(i) and 100(ii)] Printed sheets are delivered from a die-- press to a horizontal travelling band 24 on which the impressions are dried by passage through a hood 26 enclosing one or more infra-red lamps the rays of which are directed on to the printed sheets. The sheets may be fed from a pile 14 by a reciprocating gripper 19 and delivered therefrom to the band 24 in two stages by grippers 20, 21 moving uniformly with the gripper 19 on a guide bar 15, the gripper 20 carrying a printed sheet from the press to an intermediate delivery table 23 from which it is taken by the gripper 21 and deposited on the band. The sheets are deposited in echelon so as not to cause smudging by overlapping of the printed matter. The gripper carriages 16, 17, 18 are operated by a cam and linkage 27, 28, 29, 30 from the press. The sheets can be delivered by hand onto the band 24 which is advanced intermittently by crankmechanism which operates a pawl-andratchet device, or which oscillates a sprocket-chain driving a free-wheel sprocket 24. The grippers may be mounted on an endless chain which is moved intermittently or continuously in the same direction, or may be reciprocated.
