Abstract

The sheet feeding device has a sheet deliverer (15), an aligning table (19) and a conveying table (17) for transporting the sheet from the sheet deliverer (15) as far as the front-lay gauges (43) of the aligning table (19), in which device the sheet can be led positively against the side-lay gauge (45) of the aligning table (19). The sheet transport device of the conveying table is driven via a gearing with variable transmission ratio. The aim of the sheet feeding device is to permit the cycle frequency, and thus the operating rate, of a connected machine, for example a printing machine, to be very greatly increased without exceeding the maximum permissible incident rate of the sheets on the front-lay gauges of the aligning table. This is achieved in that, as early as on the conveying table (17), the sheet advance towards the front-lay gauges (43) has superimposed on it a sheet feed perpendicular thereto producing a resulting sheet feed towards the side-lay gauge (45) and in that the drive of the sheet deliverer (15), of the aligning table (19) and of the gearing with variable transmission ratio for the conveying table takes place synchronously with the drive of the sheet-processing machine.
