Abstract

Pusher feeds registering.-Sheets S are fed to a registered position at the front stops and grippers of a printing couple B, I, by pusher members 16 attached to bars 2 which slide on rails 3, the pusher members being yieldably urged in the feeding direction by compressed air from cylinders in which substantially constant pressure is maintained. The bars 2 are reciprocated by attachment to chain drive 38 through a slide block 37. Pushers 16 are pivotally attached to bars 2 to allow them to be moved below the sheet feed plane for receiving sheets. Constant pressure is maintained in the air cylinders (mounted on the frames supporting the pushers) by means of air lines 9, pressure gauges 30 and adjustable pressure reducing valves 31. The air acts as a yieldable support for the pushers, enabling these to " give " when a sheet S abuts the front stops, thus avoiding buckling, but also provides sufficient support to ensure correct alignment of the sheets. The air pressure is settable to different values depending upon the size and flexibility of the sheets and the speed of the feed.
