770,876. Feeding sheets. SCHNELLPRESSENFABRIK AKT-GES HEIDELBERG.. March 3, 1954 [April 11, 1953], No. 6259/54. Class 100(1) Sheets 2 are separated from a stack by suckers 22 which present them to grippers 8 carried by endless chains 5 driven intermittently through gearing and a Geneva drive 13, 14. Several grippers 8, spaced transversly and fixed to a common shaft 9, protrude through longitudinal slots in a curved feed table 3, and feed a sheet over the table and release it in a position where it is adjacent front and side register abutments. The sheet is registered and then fed to the impression cylinder 1 of a printing- machine by oscillating grippers 23. The sets of grippers on the chains are spaced apart a distance less than the length of the sheets whereby the sheets are fed in overlapping formation. The cross-shafts 9 of the gripper sets have arms 10 secured thereto which are provided with rollers 11 running in guide tracks 12, whereby the grippers 8 follow the contour of the table 3 and always face in the same direction, i.e. towards the stack. Blasts of air or other gas blown upwardly through holes in the table 3, float the sheets and prevent printed sheets being smeared by contact with the table. Specification 770,877 is referred to.
