Abstract

119,979. Mann & Co., G., Furnival, R. B., and Payne, R. P. Feb. 15, 1918. Delivery appara. tus.-In a printing-machine sheetdelivery mechanism in which the sheets are carried from the impression cylinder to the delivery table by grippers on endless chains, a series of longitudinal or transverse perforated pipes is arranged to deliver compressed a i r under the sheets while being carried by the grippers so as to keep the sheets in a state of buoyancy to prevent contact of the printed surface with parts of the mechanism. As shown, a series of transverse pipes 7 is arranged beneath the outward run of the gripper chains 4 and preferably extend partly round the sprocket wheels 9. Air is supplied to the pipes 7 from any suitable source by a pipe 8. To limit the upward movement of the sheets due to the air-blast, travelling or stationary tapes 10 are arranged above the chains, and curved guides 11 are arranged round the sprockets. The air, blast assists also in drying the ink.
