Class 100 (2) In a printing machine a forme inking roller or a damping roller is frictionally driven at a peripheral speed equal to the surface speed of the printing forme by means other than the frictional contact of its surface with the printing forme, whereby slip therebetween' is eliminated; the driving means is the positively-driven reciprocating or other ink or moisture supply roller on which the forme inking roller or damping roller bears, its peripheral speed being sufficiently greater than that of the printing forme, e.g. on the plate cylinder of an offset press, so that the slip between itself and the forme inking roller or damping roller is just counteracted; an infinitely variable friction drive may be incorporated to provide a fine adjustment to the required speed.
