Abstract

701,391. Coke-oven doors. NORTH THAMES GAS BOARD. April 2, 1952 [Feb. 2, 1951], No. 2695/51. Class 55 (1) In a dry-sealing coke oven door 1 having a closed rectangular sealing frame 4 formed of T-section metal bar one flange of which makes sealing contact with the oven door-frame, the sealing flange of. the vertical parts of the frame lying above and below the upper and lower door-fixing bars respectively gradually increases in width towards the ends of the door. The sealing flanges of the horizontal portions of the frame are of a uniform width equal to the width of the widest part of the vertical sealing flange. The arrangement is preferably effected by welding U-shaped extension pieces 23 to the crosspiece of the T-bar around the upper and lower portions of the sealing frame. The sealing frame is resiliently mounted on a flange extending round the oven door by metal faced asbestos strips 7 and 8 riveted to the web 5 of the T-bar and pressed against the door by a series of adjustable screw jacks 13. Screw jacks 24 are provided to urge the sealing frame into engagement with the face of the oven-door frame.
