Abstract

701,197. Steam turbines. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. May 5, 1952 [ May 9, 1951], No. 11286/52. Class 110 (3) In a steam turbine wherein admission is controlled by a number of nozzle valves starting is effected with all valves uniformly opened so as to avoid unequal heating of the turbine and when the change over to on-load operation is carried out the valves are automatically operated in succession. The regulating system employs an oil pump 1 supplying pipes 2, 3, the oil in pipe 2 passing through a throttling valve 17 to pipes 4, 10 and an escape valve 5 operated by the turbine governor 6. Branches 4a ... 4d are controlled by change-over three-way cocks 7a... 7d, with connections 16a ... 16d to powerpistons 8a ... 8d for operating the nozzle valves 9a ... 9d, and connections to pressure converters 11a . . . 11d each of which is also connected to the pipes 10, 3, throttle valves 18 being arranged in the connections to the pipe 3. Each pressure converter consists of a cylinder with a leakage port 15 and an escape port 14 controlled by a spring-loaded stepped piston 12. The power-pistons 8a ... 8d carry different spring loads so that when the change-over cocks 7a ... 7d are placed in position II the powerpistons are connected only to the pipe 4 and are automatically operated in succession. The ratio of the piston surface of each pressure converter is so selected that when at starting the changeover cocks are placed in position I the valves 9a ... 9b will all lift uniformly.
