700,846. Valve seatings. HERCULES MOTORS CORPORATION. April 21, 1952 [Aug. 16, 1951], No. 10021/52. Classes 7(2) and 7(6) Flanged seat inserts 24, 25 for inlet and exhaust valves 16, 17 of a Diesel or other engine cylinder 4 are preferably of heatresisting alloy and locate as by press fitting in shouldered portions 20, 20a of recesses 18, 19 in a cast iron or other cylinder head 3, the insert flanges 28, 28a, which as shown have slight clearance in the recesses 18, 19, overlapping the cylinder wall at opposite sides of the cylinder, so as to be retained in position thereby, and meeting in complementary surfaces 31, 31a so as to be secured against rotations and to protect from overheating the head portion 35 above the central region of the cylinder.
