Abstract
698,713. Valves. GRATZMULLER, J. L. Sept. 24, 1951 [Sept. 23, 1950; Sept. 10, 1951], No. 22246/51. Class 135 In a valve in which the closure member 37 is actuated by axial displacement of an operating stem 21, the latter passes through a wall of the valve housing and is sealed by a stuffing-box consisting of a recess in the valve housing, or in a separate stuffiing-box body 44x, Fig. 5, a packing 1 of neoprene, purbunan, nylon, &c. housed in the recess which also accommodates a sliding ring 33 for compressing the packing, and a spring 3 situated between the ring and an abutment fixed with respect to the valve housing. The actuating means comprises a rotary screwed spindle 30, Fig. 2, with a recess at its lower end accommodating a head formed on the stem 21; and a ball bearing member 32. Fig. 5, may be interposed between the lower end of spindle 30 and the head on stem 21. An operating knob 31 is secured to spindle 30 by means of an elastic pin 40; and access to the pin is obtained through apertures 41 in the skirt of the knob.
