Abstract

628,261. Valve closure members. BRYANS AEROQUIPMENT, Ltd., and WILMSHURST, C. A. Aug. 1, 1946, No. 22965. [Class 135] A double-beat lift valve for controlling relatively small flows of fluids over a pressure range between about zero absolute and 100 lbs. per sq. inch, comprises a casing 8 to which is secured a spring housing 5 and a flanged cover 9. The casing 8 is formed with a plane seating face having ports 14, 15 which open on the one hand to passages 12, 13 leading to union connections 2, 4 and on the other hand to a chamber 16 in the housing 5. The ports 14, 15 are controlled by a spring-urged valve 1 provided with individual gaskets 17, 18 and formed with an upstanding stem engaged by a loose tappet 6 which contacts a flexible sealing diaphragm 7 secured to the casing by a flanged spacer 22 and the cover 9. A screw-threaded operating- spindle 10 carrying a knob 24, to prevent rotary movement of the valve, is provided with a bore in which is loosely mounted a ball 25 for engagement through a pad 21 and the diaphragm 7 with the tappet 6 and an adjustable push-rod 26. To limit the opening movement of the valve, the spindle 10 is formed with a flange 29 which engages the flange of the spacer 22. In the fully-closed position, the flange 29 is arranged to contact the cover 9. According to the Provisional Specification, the pad 21, ball 25, and push-rod 26 may be replaced by a tappet similar to the tappet 6 and slidable in the spindle bore.
