698,053. Fire hydrants; valves. LINDLEY, H. March 10, 1952 [March 8, 1951], No. 5597/51. Addition to 681,563. Classes 69(i) and 135 In the fire-hydrant described in the parent Specification the pressure relief valve is incorporated with the auxiliary gate-valve member itself. The valve member d, threadably mounted within a boss a<SP>3</SP>, has an upper portion which is hollowed to form a chamber d<SP>5</SP> communicating with an axial passage-way d<SP>4</SP> through the plug and with atmosphere via the ports d<SP>6</SP>. A ball e, closing the upper end of the passage-way, is loaded by a spring f compressed and held in position by a screwed plug g. To adjust the gate valve to the position corresponding to the correct outlet pressure, the plug g is screwed fully home, so that the ball e exerts a predetermined pressure, and then slackened back slightly. The valve is then screwed down by the head d<SP>3</SP> until the water starts to " bleed past the valve when the plug is screwed fully home.
