586,809. Fluid-pressure servomotors; relief valves. MERIT ENGINEERING, Inc. Oct. 27, 1944, No. 20999. Convention date, March 16. [Class 135] A fluid relief valve has a main flow passageway 11 and a relief passage 12, communication between the two being controlled by a spring- loaded main valve 27 guided by members 15, 36. Seating on the member 36, which is shrunk into a sleeve 37, is a spring-loaded control valve 50, the space above which is in communication with a chamber 33 formed between a shoulder in the member 15 and the lower surface of an enlarged part of the valve 27, so that upon opening of the control valve 'by the fluid pressure when it reaches' a predetermined value, fluid enters the chamber 33 to open the main valve 27 and permit fluid to escape to the relief passage 12 via passages 26, 26<1>. When the pressure in the main passage drops to the normal value the control valve closes underthe action of its spring and the fluid in the chamber 33 escapes along the surfaces 22, 52, 53 to the relief passage, thus allowing the main valve to close. The construction of the valve is such that it forms a complete unit which may be inserted in any suitable housing such as that shown at 10.
