Abstract

The coating composition for preparing a composite sponge rubber-textile material is prepared by mixing rubber latex and sodium silicate solution and foaming the mixture by introduction of an inert gas e.g. nitrous oxide, under pressure and/or by high-speed stirring. A suitable latex mixture is neoprene latex (50 per cent solids), 2.25 per cent of 41 DEG B<\>e sodium silicate solution, 2 per cent. of light viscosity refined cottonseed oil and 2.3 per cent sodium silicofluoride as 25 per cent aqueous solution or dispersion, with or without 3.5 per cent high alpha-cellulose fibres, accelerators and vulcanizing agents.
