Abstract

Material similar to soft rubber is obtained by mixing rubber latex with colloidal sulphur in amount from about one-third to about four times the weight of the rubber content of the latex, the mixture being allowed to remain at a temperature, e.g. 20 DEG C., below those usual in hot vulcanization. Activators, accelerators, fillers and/or dyestuffs may be added to the mixture. Accelerators, when present, should preferably be added to the mixture shortly before use. Concentrated latex and a concentrated paste of colloidal sulphur may be used as the primary ingredients. Examples of specific compositions suitable for coating articles by painting or spraying are given. The colloidal sulphur may be prepared according to Specifications 177,103 or 304,498, [both in Class 1 (i)].
