Abstract
Rubber compositions containing large proportions, e.g. 30-60 per cent by weight, of cork, are vulcanized with the aid of an organic accelerator in the presence of a small proportion (0,3-1 per cent), of piperidine, dipiperidyl, triethanolamine, dimethylamine, derivatives of these such as piperidine tartrate, piperidine acid stearate, and aldehyde condensation products of piperidine. The latter counteracts the retarding of vulcanization due to the cork. The reaction products of these bodies with accelerators, particularly the addition product of zinc pentamethylene dithiocarbamate and piperidine may retain both properties. Accelerators specified are dithiocarbamates, thiuram mono and disulphides, mercaptoarylthiazoles. The mix is vulcanizable with a small percentage of sulphur, of the order of 1/2 -1 per cent, whereby bloom may be prevented. Specification 376,318 is referred to.
