Abstract

A cork-rubber composition comprises a mixture of cork and rubber in approximately equal proportions, not more than 5 per cent of sulphur, and one or more accelerators-e.g. diphenylguanidine, mercaptobenzothiazole, zinc isopropylxanthate, piperidine 1-carbothionolate-but no blowing agent, the whole being vulcanized. Activators, softeners, deoxidants, and colouring matter may be added. An example of a suitable mix is:-(parts by weight) rubber 100, cork 100, sulphur 3, zinc oxide 5, stearic acid 2, mercaptobenzothiazole 0,5, diphenylguanidine 0,5, paraffin wax 5, "Nonox" S (Registered Trade Mark) 1, lithopone 25, chrome oxide green 15.
