Abstract

Polysulphonamides are made by mixing an aqueous solution of a polyamine with a solution of a bis-sulphonyl chloride in a water-immiscible organic solvent preferably in presence of an emulsifying agent. The Specification contains many examples of polyamines, bissulphonyl chlorides, organic solvents and emulsifying agents. The polysulphonamides from diamines are fibre-forming. Reaction may be performed in presence of a water-miscible organic solvent and may be performed continuously as in Specification 685,729. Reaction may be performed (i) by vigorously agitating a mixture of the two solutions; (ii) mixing a solution of the polyamine in the form of its salt with the solution of the bis-sulphonyl chloride and effecting reaction by adding alkali e.g. sodium carbonate or hydroxide, di- or tri-sodium phosphate or additional polyamine.
