Abstract
Natural rubber latex is separated into fractions by adding an alkaline substance such as ammonia to bring the Ph to 6.0 to 8.5, then adding a solution of a salt with a monovalent cation and allowing the mixture to stand, and then separating the two or more layers which are formed. The optimum Ph is 7.5 and preferably sodium chloride at a strength of 0.2 to 0.4 gm. mols per litre is used. Rubber made by coagulating the lowest or "white" layer has a low water absorption and high plasticity. Specifications 413,185 and 586,830 are referred to.
