Abstract

The Provisional Specification describes the production of an emulsion by emulsifying rubber solution in hot water using soap or other emulsifying agent.ALSO:Latex is stabilized by means of a solution obtained by dissolving leather, wool or feathers in a weak sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide solution, the proportions being 4 of latex to 1 of stabilizer. The Provisional Specification describes also the production of an artificial emulsion by emulsifying rubber solution in hot water using soap or other emulsifying agent and the admixture of such an emulsion or of latex, preferably with the addition of the above stabilizer, with coagulants and of fillers such as kaolin, diatomaceous earth, Portland cement, yellow ochre, coke and pumice, to give compositions for road surfacing. Such compositions may also contain as well as vulcanizing agents, chlorophyll to act as a solar vulcanizing accelerator and antioxidant.
