697,445. Granulating aluminium. SMITH, A. L. April 4, 1952. No. 8613/52. Class 32(ii) Aluminium powder is obtained by discharging a stream of filtered and cooled compressed air over the end of a vertical pipe, the bottom end of which is immersed in molten aluminium, so that the aluminium is drawn up the pipe and emerges into the air stream in consequence of the ejector action of the compressed air. If desired, a bunsen flame can be played on the pipe to keep the metal molten. A compressor A delivers air through the cooler B and filter C through a nozzle D over the top of the vertical pipe E. A cabinet G to collect the pulverized aluminium is connected to a cyclone I and centrifugal extractor H. Fine powder is sieved out at K, and coarse powder at L. The air is exhausted through fabric (R) to collect the residual powder.
