Abstract
546,474. Pulverizing by attrition; centrifugal separators. EAGLE PENCIL CO. Jan. 14, 1941, No. 524. Convention date, Jan. 15, 1940. [Classes 23 and' 59] The stock to be pulverized passes from a hopper 23 down a conduit 21 into a chamber 12 whence it is sucked into a tube C by two compressed air, gas or steam ejectors I and D. The tube C is kept substantially full of stock, and pulverizing is effected by relative movement between the centre of the stock stream and the sides thereof which make contact with the tube. The pulverized stock passes through a curved tube 32 which enters tangentially an expansion chamber 17, and the heavier particles fall into the chamber 12 to be re-pulverized while the lighter particles are levitated off through a pipe 34. From pipe 34 the lighter particles pass through successive separators 36, 41, 47. By attaching the pipe 34 to the inlet 50 or inlet 49 the proportion of fines obtained will be smaller or greater respectively. The pipe C may be in the form of a helix.
