Abstract

Textile materials containing an organic derivative of cellulose in admixture with an animal fibre are first dyed with a dyestuff for the cellulose derivative, then treated with a titanous salt to remove the stain from the animal fibre and finally dyed with a dyestuff for the animal fibre. The titanous salt is preferably applied in 0.5-4 per cent aqueous solution at 25-60 DEG C. for 10-60 minutes. The cellulose derivative may be an ester or ether and a water-insoluble dyestuff may be used therefor. If the animal fibre is wool an acid dyestuff is suitable. In the examples, (1) a cellulose acetate wool mixed fabric is dyed with a mixture of Celliton Fast Blue AF, 41 - ethoxy - 2 - nitrodiphenylamine - 4 - sulphonamide and 1 - amino - 4 - acetylamino - anthraquinone from a bath containing ammonia and a wetting agent; it is then treated with aqueous titanous sulphate and further dyed with Palatine Marine Blue RENA, Omega Chrome Flavine CLG and Alizarine Rubinol R from an acetic acid bath; a solid green shade results; (2) as in (1) using Celliton Fast Pink BA for the cellulose acetate and Alizarine Rubinol R for the wool, giving a solid bluish-red shade. The process is applicable to yarns and fabrics.
