Abstract

695,589. Check valves. QUICKFIT & QUARTZ, Ltd., and CURTIS, D. March 3, 1952 [March 3, 1951], No. 5201/51. Class 135 A hinged check valve, e.g. for handling toxic liquids, comprises a glass body with glass inlet and outlet pipes 1, 2, Fig. 1, respectively, and a chamber 3 containing a glass closure flap 11 hinged by a glass stirrup 8, Fig. 2, to a glass stem 6, welded to the crown of a hump 5. The inlet pipe extends into the chamber and is bent to form a seat 4, in a vertical plane, for the flap. In a modification, the seat is inclined to the vertical and the flap is counterbalanced. The inlet and outlet pipes may be disposed coaxially and horizontally, the part of the inlet pipe within the chamber being straight. The valve is manufactured by making the body with an opening in the chamber wall, through which the seat 4 can be ground and the stem 6 welded in position, the opening then being sealed.
