Abstract

845,858. Furnace observation windows. HERAEUS G.m.b.H., W. C. May 4, 1959 [May 2, 1958], No. 15231/59. Class 51 (2). A multiple inspection window for a vacuum induction melting furnace comprises a disc 12 with peripheral windows 13 rotatably mounted on the furnace wall 1 so that each window in turn can be positioned over an inspection opening 9, and, enclosing the disc, a casing 2 with a removable lid 4 screwing on to the casing against a seal 6 and carrying a sealed window 8. The disc is connected by a coupling 15 to a spindle 14 in the lid 4 facilitating replacement when the windows 13 are coated with metallic vapours. A connection 17 to a vacuum pump has a valve 18, and a valve 11 seats on the opening 9. A locking device prevents opening of valve 11 until the pressure differential on both sides of it lies below a certain adjustable, determined valve, and another locking device prevents opening of the lid 4 until valve 11 is closed. A further locking device releases valve 18 only when lid 4 and valve 11 are both closed.
