A valve for portable gas containers comprises a spring-closed closure member 11 coacting with a downwardly facing seating 15 and an actuating plunger 25, 44 acted upon by a cam lever 40, the cam of which has stop portions 54 at its ends. A sealing diaphragm 42 is interposed between the two parts of the plunger. A protecting cover 56 may be screwed to a bung 58 into which the body of the valve is screwed. A filter 31 may be fitted in the inlet.
