694,295. Rotary pumps. SOC. GENERALE ISOTHERMOS. April 22, 1952 [April 24, 1951], No. 10139/52. Class 110(ii) A vane pump 17 supplies liquid to a passage 22, irrespective of the direction of rotation of a pump shaft 4 which is driven by helical gearing from an axially-displaceable shaft 2. The figure shows the pump supplying lubricant to a well 23 which feeds a bearing 11 of an axle 12 in an axle-box 10. A pin-and-slot mechanism 15. 14 drives the shaft 2, the initial movement of which is axial until a plug 20 has covered one of the pump outlet ports 18 or 19, the uncovered port delivering liquid from the pump to the passage 22. On completion of the axial movement, the shaft 2 drives the shaft 4, thepump 17 then commencing to pump liquid. from a sump, through a filter 7 and pump inlet 24, which is placed midway on the crescent-shaped pumping chamber.
