Abstract

1,265,208. Rotary vacuum pumps. GENERAL ENG. CO. RADCLIFFE Ltd. March 26, 1970 [April 21, 1969], No.20284/69. Heading F1F. In an oil sealed sliding vane rotary vacuum pump 1, lubricating and sealing oil is supplied to the pump interior from a reservoir 31 via a plurality of radial passages normally closed by spring- loaded balls, and formed in a sleeve 22 mounted on an extension 35 of the pulley driven pump shaft 4. The balls are removed from their seats by centrifugal action, and oil is drawn by the reduced pressure in the pump, via passages 33, 36, 37 in the shaft 4 and 18 and 9 in the pump casing, to pump bearings 8 and 32. The pump outlet valve 13 is immersed in a secondary reservoir 14 whose rim is above the level of oil in the reservoir 31 so that failure of the valve 13 would lead to only a small amount of oil being drawn into the pump.
