692,369. Stapling fibres. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER. Nov. 8. 1950 [Nov, 8, 1949] No. 27311/50. Class 120(iii) Continuously moving fibrous material such as filaments, threads, slivers, is cut by means of one or more revolving knives and a current of gas or liquid. conveys the material to and from the place of cutting and acts on the material beyond this place to stretch it where it is cut. A double rotary disc cutter (see Group VIII) may coact with several nozzle arrangements: in the device shown in Fig. 2, knives 6 operate without touching an edge 9 which has a groove 10 into which' the current may 'be introduced, and a nozzle 10a directs the gas or liquid against the fibrous material 27: as shown in Fig. 4 a nozzle may direct gas or liquid to the material 17 on each side of a cutting slit 15 in which a knife 18 operates; one nozzle (28) is shut off during cutting by a valve 19 operated by cam means 20. In the arrangement illustrated in Fig. 5 a knife 21 is mounted on the shaft of a stationary motor, and nozzles 22 through which fibrous material .is sucked are mounted on a rotatable supporting body 23 mounted on a shaft 24; air is admitted inside the shaft through a supply-pipe 25, and the body rotated by a cone belt 26.
