Abstract
679,745. Trimming embroidery. MAN-SEW CORPORATION. March 1, 1950 [March 18, 1949], No. 5162/50. Class 31 (i). A machine to trim the waste fabric material from embroidered work along a raised edge thereof comprises severing elements including a rotatable shear blade, a member adjacent the severing elements to deflect the embroidered edge from the severing elements and dual feed mechanisms mounted on opposite sides of the point where severing takes place and situated between the severing point and the axis of rotation of the shear blade, the feed mechanisms being disposed at divergent angles to each other and to the general feed path of the work, the severed portions of the work thus lying in separate, divergent paths. As shown in Fig. 2, material is fed over work-table 21 by two reciprocating feed dogs 53, 153, the appropriate motion of the feed dogs being derived by means of linkages driven through eccentrics from rotating shafts 46, 146. The material is cut by means of a rotary cutter 27, Fig. 9, which co-operates with a stationary blade 33, the embroidered edge S being deflected from the cutter by an adjustable deflector 90 which cooperates with the blade 33 to form a throat through which only the base material may pass. Presser feet 81, 181 co-operate with the feed dogs to feed the work and the waste in divergent paths as shown in Fig. 8.
