In a writing instrument of the ball tip type, wherein the ball is supplied with ink from a reservoir by means of a feed duct, the reservoir is readily separable from the feed member which includes the duct and writing extremity, and the reservoir opening is sealed automatically on separation from the feed member. As shown, the casing comprises two members 6, 7, the latter receiving in an axial bore therein a feed duct tube 3 in which is located a ball housing 2 and ball 1. A shoulder 14 on the tube resists writing pressure, and a groove 10 facilitates removal of the tube. A capillary, collapsible sac, or other reservoir 5 provided with a self-sealing sphincter plug 9, fits over the end of the tube 3, and is retained in the barrel of the pen by any suitable means. The tube 3 may be knurled at 17. In a modification, the member 7 is hollow to receive a split spring which engages a groove in the tube 3 to retain the latter in writing position, and the reservoir is secured to the casing 6 by screw-thread means.
