Abstract
629,283. Fountain pens. MARTIN, H. G. April 19, 1945, No. 32369/46. Divided out of 629,226; [Class 146 (iii)] In a ball-tip fountain pen, the pen is charged with an oleaginous ink of a viscosity not less than 15 poise at 37‹ C. and ' the . annular gap 3a between the ball 6 and its housing 3 through which the ink passes is not less than 0.001 mms. and not more than 0.01 mms. The bore 4 of the housing 3 has at one end a duct 5 communicating with the ball and at the other end is chamfered where it leads to an adaptor 2 so as to prevent the formation of air bubbles. The pen reservoir 1 which may be a capillary tube, is connected to the adaptor. A two-part casing with an air-hole is provided for the parts 1, 2, 3, together with a closure cap. Inks. The ink comprises an oleaginous solvent such as olein, castor oil, recinoleic acid or a mixture thereof, an adhesive thickener such as colophony and a dye such as aniline. A small proportion of soap e.g. sodium oleate may be included. Specifications 564,172, 564,173, 571,698, 573,747 and 629,226 are referred to.
