695,621. Reservoir pens. COMPANIA URUGUAYA DE FOMENTO INDUSTRIAL SOC. ANON. Sept. 28, 1948. [June 3, 1947] No. 14664/47. Class 146 (iii). In a ball-point pen having a reservoir in the form of a vented tube 3, at the end of the ink column 11 remote from the ball a meniscus-forming medium 12 is provided which forms a continuation of and is of greater viscosity than the ink column, and is such that it forms a stable meniscus at the interface between it, the air and the interior surface of the tube without offering so great a resistance to flow as to prevent an adequate supply of ink to the ball during writing. The medium may be an ink or colourless and preferably does not affect textiles so as to minimise inconvenience to the user if leakage occurs. Further, it may have the same density as the ink 11. Suitable mediums are silicon fluids, a highly concentrated solution of colophony in ricinoleic acid, highly refined mineral oil sold as N.P.L. calibration oil, silicon greases, soft petroleum jelly and some colloidal solutions of long-chain polymers in organic solvents. A follower 14 such as is described in Specification 688,891 may be provided and may be arranged to float on the medium or on the ink column.
