Class 122(v) In a gas-sealing device for a rotary shaft 1, comprising a reservoir 2 containing sealing liquid 3 through which the shaft passes and into which depends, an air-bell 4 secured to the shaft above the liquid level, a stationary tube 6 within the airbell, coaxial with the shaft and rising from the bottom of the reservoir to which it is sealingly secured, the vortex formed in the liquid 3 when the shaft 1 rotates is minimised by a stationary perforated or apertured sleeve 7 surrounding the air-bell with a small radial clearance. The reservoir 2 is provided. with cooling fins 10 and cooling air is directed thereon by an axial fan 13 attached to the shaft.
