Abstract

A composition useful for forming a priming coating on metal or wood comprises a vinyl acetate/vinyl chloride/maleic acid tripolymer, chlorinated rubber and an organic solvent. Preferably the chlorinated rubber has a chlorine content of 60 to 70 per cent and the ratio of chlorinated rubber to tripolymer is from 3 : 1 to 1 : 3. Suitable solvents are toluol and methyl ethyl ketone. Other ingredients, e.g. Neoprene, may be added. The coating may be covered with an adhesive and sheets of metal may thus be bonded to themselves or to other materials. Two examples of adhesives are given: (a) butadiene-acrylonitrile copolymer and vinyl chloride-vinyl acetate copolymer dissolved in methyl ethyl ketone, as described in Specification 569,666; (b) Neoprene, zinc oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium silicate, tricresyl phosphate, anti-oxidant, sulphur and stearic acid dissolved in ethyl acetate and petrol, the composition being later cured.ALSO:A composition useful for forming a priming coating on metal or wood comprises a vinyl acetate/vinyl chloride/maleic acid tripolymer, chlorinated rubber and an organic solvent. Preferably the chlorinated rubber has a chlorine content of 60 to 70 per cent and the ratio of chlorinated rubber to tripolymer is from 3 : 1 to 1 : 3. Suitable solvents are toluole and methyl ethyl ketone. Other ingredients, e.g. Neoprene, may be added.
