Abstract
Sheet vinyl resin is united to leather or to shoe parts of leather or leather substitute by an adhesive layer comprising chlorinated rubber or a vinyl resin and a rubbery material which may be rubber, polymerised chloroprene or a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile, the uniting process involving the application to the leather or shoe part, prior to bonding with the vinyl resin sheet, of a coating comprising the rubbery material. The vinyl resin margin of a shoe upper, the remainder of which may be in part of other materials, is coated with a solution containing chlorinated rubber or a vinyl resin, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate, or both chlorinated rubber and a vinyl resin. The dried coating, and the adjacent marginal portion of an insole are coated with a solution comprising polymerised chloroprene or crepe rubber, dried for half an hour, and pressed together. An outsole may be similarly secured to the overlasted marginal vinyl resin portion of a shoe upper, or a shoe tread member of vinyl resin may be secured to a leather layer. Instead of applying a chlorinated rubber composition and polymerised chloroprene or crepe rubber composition in succession to the vinyl resin layer, the compositions may be mixed and applied in one operation. The polymerised chloroprene composition may comprise polymerised chloroprene, wood rosin, magnesium oxide, zinc oxide, phenyl - b - naphthylamine, benzene, trichlorethylene, sulphur and an accelerator, and the natural rubber composition may comprise crepe rubber, a resin produced by treating rubber with phenol and sulphuric acid, naphtha and ethyl alcohol. In a modification a single adhesive is used comprising a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile mixed with chlorinated rubber or a vinyl resin, and, if desired, stearic acid, fillers such as silica or zinc oxide, and sulphur. The vinyl resin sheet may be of polyvinyl acetate or chloride, a copolymer of vinyl acetate and vinyl chloride or a polyvinyl acetal, and may contain a plasticiser such as di(butoxyethyl)phthalate or dibutyl sebacate. Specifications 408,953 [Group VII], 467,562 and 467,734 [both in Group III], 505,259 [Group VII], 510,942 and 560,808 are referred to.ALSO:Sheet vinyl resin is united to leather or to shoe parts of leather or leather substitute by an adhesive layer comprising chlorinated rubber or a vinyl resin and a rubbery material which may be rubber, polymerised chloroprene, or a copolymer of butadiene and acrylonitrile, the uniting process involving the application to the leather or shoe part, prior to bonding with the vinyl resin sheet, of a coating comprising the rubbery material. The vinyl resin margin of a shoe upper, the remainder of which may be in part of other materials, is coated with a solution containing chlorinated rubber or a vinyl resin, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate or both chlorinated rubber and a vinyl resin.
