Abstract

PURPOSE: To make a strong adhesive bond, by priming an ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer base with a rubber-modified ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer and then bonding the base with urethane type synthetic leather with the aid of a chloroprene type adhesive.
CONSTITUTION: One hundred (100)pts.wt. of an ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer, acrylic acid content 15W25wt%, is molten by heating. To the molten copolymer is added 10W40pts.wt. of a modifier which is a diene rubber or an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer to obtain a primer. Then, an ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer base is coated with said primer and is allowed to cool and dry. The coated base is bonded, under pressure, with urethane type synthetic leather whose surface to be bonded is previously coated with a chloroprene type adhesive and dried.
USE: The composition is useful to bond a sole made of an ethylene/acrylic acid copolymer with an upper leather made of urethane synthetic leather and particularly suitable in the production of golf shoes.
