Abstract

549,977. Indiarubber compositions ; cementing together shoe parts. B.B. CHEMICAL CO., Ltd., PUDDEFOOT, L. E., SWIRE, W. H., and ELSON, K. H. June 13, 1941, No. 7464. [Class 70]. [Also in Group VII] Shoe parts and similar surfaces are adhesively bonded by applying to at least one of the surfaces a composition containing chlorinated rubber and a solvent, allowing the composition to dry and applying the solvent to activate it before bringing the surfaces together. A shoe upper and a sole are roughened by apparatus described in Specifications 416,667, [Group VII], and 444,250, [Group VII], and cement coatings applied by apparatus described in Specifications 411,815 and 518,779, [both in Group III], solvent or softener is applied by the apparatus of Specification 411,815, [Group III], and the parts are pressed together by the apparatus of Specification 408,953, [Group VII]. A suitable cement is formed of the chlorinated rubber sold under the Registered. Trade' Mark "Alloprene", a plasticizer such as that sold under the Registered Trade Mark, "Cereclor", dibutyl phthalate, dimethyl glycol phthalate, or tricresyl phosphate and a solvent such as benzol or a mixture of benzol and ethyl acetate. The dried coating is activated by means of a low-boiling solvent such as acetone in which chlorinated rubber and plasticizer are dissolved.
