Abstract
689,546. Stands for hand-irons. TONKS, C. R. Aug. 24, 1951. [Aug. 29, 1950] No. 20038/51. Class 138 (ii). A stand for a pressing iron comprises a flat platform 10 having at its rear end a clamp 13, 14 for securing it to the edge of a table or like support, the platform 10 being formed with raised side and rear edges 16 and 17 respectively and having a yoke 19 projecting from its front edge to receive and engage the nose of an iron placed on the platform, the extent to which the yoke projects being adjustable to suit irons of different lengths. Thus the yoke is formed with a tongue 20 having a slot 21 to receive a screw 22, and received at its lower end in a strap member 23. The screw 22 may have a plain head engaging across the edges of the slot 21, as seen in Fig. 1 and a spring 25 urges the yoke 19 into contact with the nose of the iron which is thus held against the rear edge 17 of the platform. Alternatively, the screw may be provided with a thumb-nut 24 (Fig. 2) which is tightened to lock the yoke 19 in any desired position. A clip 15 is loosely carried on the clamp screw 14 and serves to increase the clamping engagement with the table. A sheet of asbestos or the like covers the surface of the platform 10. The tongue 20 may be replaced by a doubled length of wire so bent as to form the slot between its members.
