521,531. Carding, cleaning, or teasing devices. LUTZ, A. March 15, 1939, No. 8328. [Class 42 (i)] [Also in Group IX] A hand carding, cleaning or teasing device comprises a piece of-card clothing a supported by a curved or flat plate and having its front and rear edges adapted to be engaged by an arcuate resilient plate to which pressure can be applied in a direction normal to the plate in order to vary the curvature thereof and thereby tension the piece of card clothing in opposite direction. As shown the clothing a is provided at its front and rear edges with U-shaped gripper or clamping rails c extending over the resilient tensioning plate d which is outwardly cambered, is fixed to a handle e, and is tensioned by a wing-nut g working on a screw bolt f. If the device' is of sufficient width guide pins h may be provided. The handle e is of wood or alternatively may be formed of metal and provided with side strips of wood. A narrower form of the device is used for cleaning files or roughening surfaces.
