763,700. Fixing fireplaces. MERCER, C. H. Jan. 11, 1955, No. 891/55. Addition to 721,113. Class 126 A fixing device for a fireplace comprises a shaped sheet metal strip with an aperture or slot in a flat part at one end and a part at the other end lying in a plane normal to the surface of the flat part and at an inclination to and on one side of the flat part, and a separately formed tongue piece having an offset portion with lateral projections at one end, the tongue piece being connected with the shaped strip by engagement of the junction of the offset and main parts of the tongue piece through the hole or slot in the shaped strip so that the lateral projections bear on the flat part of the shaped strip on the opposite side to theother end portion, while the main part of the tongue piece engages the other face of the flat part. The shaped metal strip has a slot 2 with a central circular aperture in a flat part 6 at one end, the other part 7 being bent to a plane at right-angles and provided with a tying hole 8 for embedding in the cement backing 14 of a fireplace surround. The tongue piece 9 has a hole at one end and an offset part at the other end joined to the main part by a narrow neck 12. The tongue piece 9 can be turned at right-angles when the fixing device has been assembled with a fireplace so that it does not project from the side.
