805,763. Buckles. DONIALDSON, H. M., and HEBERN, W. D. Feb. 28, 1956, No. 6139/56. Class 43 A cotton bale tie comprises a flat metal buckle 10 having an elongated rectangular slot 16 parallel with its ends 12 and 14 and in substantially closer relation to one of said ends, e.g. end 12, than to the other and, in association with the buckle, a metal strap 22 which is put around the bale 26 while the latter is held in a press (not shown) one end 24 of the strap being secured by passing it over the portion of the buckle from the end 14 more distant from the slot 16, inserting it through the slot and bending the strap reversely beneath itself, Fig. 4, the free other end 30 of the strap then being inserted through the slot by a straight forward threading action into underlying relation with the end portion 24 of the strap. In attaching the bale tie the strap is tensioned by rocking the buckle outwardly and downwardly, as shown in Fig. 4, with the lower edge 28 of the end 12 serving as a fulcrum on the bale 26. With the tie attached, the compression on the bale is released and the buckle snaps downwardly upon the surface of the bale.
