870,760. Strap fastenings. GUEST Ltd., O. D. Sept. 10,1959 [Oct. 1, 1958], No. 31290/58. Class 44. A clasp for a strap used with a wrist watch, for example, comprises a plate 10 hinged by one end at 12 to one end of a second plate 11 so that the plates can fold together, the plate 10 having its free end adapted, e.g. by being provided with a slot 13, to be connected to one end of the strap and the plate 11 having an elongated slot which has a plurality of transversely wide portions 18 spaced apart by relatively narrow portions 19, the slot 18, 19 being adapted to be releasably engaged by a catch member 22 projecting from the free end 21 of the strap. The plates 10, 11 are slightly curved to conform to the wearer's wrist and are adapted to be releasably retained in the folded position by lugs 17 on the plate 10 engaging recesses 16 on the plate 11. The catch member 22 is a short length of plate metal bent to L-shape, and prior to engaging the member in the slot 18, 19 the end 21 of the strap is passed through a slot 20 in the plate 11 so as to lie underneath the latter; the catch member 22 is thereafter selectively passed through one of the wide portions 18 of the slot so that when the strap is tightened, the catch member is pulled into engagement with the adjacent narrow portion 19 of the slot so preventing movement of the member 22 longitudinally in the slot.
